Jaguars blow trade opportunity

The Jacksonville Jaguars decided to release veteran defensive tackle John Henderson a month or so ago.

It wasn’t huge news since Henderson is longer the player he once was, but what if you knew the Jaguars could have gotten something in return for him?

Apparently the Jaguars and Oakland Raiders discussed a trade for Henderson during the NFL Draft, but nothing ever happened. ( Read More…)

Jaguars sign Lehman

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed linebacker Teddy Lehman to a contract. Terms were not released.

Lehman is a former second-round draft pick who has been slowed by injuries in recent seasons.

He has spent time with the Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills and can be a productive player when healthy.

In his rookie year with the Lions, Lehman started every game and finished with 120 tackles.

With the Lehman signing, the Jaguars placed defensive end Bryan Smith on injured reserve.

Jaguars stun many, take Alualu in top 10

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a bold move by picking defensive end Tyson Alualu with the 10th overall pick.

The Jaguars seemed taken aback after watching Rolando McClain and C.J. Spiller come off the board just before them.

Alualu is a fine football player, but was not good value at the spot in which he was selected by Jacksonville.

The Jaguars would have been much better off trading down and accumulating more picks and selecting Alualu later on in the draft.

Alualu wasn’t expected to be selected until sometime in the second round, so he made a lot of money off of Jacksonville’s questionable pick.

Jaguars release Henderson

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released veteran defensive tackle John Henderson.

Henderson is just the latest lineman to be shown the door as the Jaguars continue to try and remake their front seven.

Henderson and Marcus Stroud formed one of the best defensive line duos just a few years ago, but now neither is in Jacksonville.

The team tried to dump the two-time Pro Bowler during the draft, but could not find any suitors.

He now becomes a free agent, where he is certain to draw some attention from teams looking for additional depth along the line.

Jags face plenty of home games to kick off 2010

By Bud L. Ellis

If the Jacksonville Jaguars want to get off to a good start in 2010, they’ll have the opportunity to do so at home.

The National Football League has announced game dates and times for the upcoming season, and the first thing that jumps out at the Jags’ slate is the four home games in the first six weeks of the season.

Jacksonville kicks off the schedule Sept. 12 at home against Denver. A road trip to AFC West champion San Diego is on tap in week two, followed by two tough back-to-back home games: against Philadelphia and against AFC champion and AFC South rival Indianapolis. Following a road trip to Buffalo, the Jags play home game No. 4 of the season Oct. 18 against Tennessee on Monday Night Football.

The first half of the season ends with two consecutive road games: at Kansas City and at Dallas. The bye week comes in week 9 on Nov. 7.

Jacksonville plays two consecutive home games to begin the second half, against Houston and Cleveland. Then comes the tough finishing stretch, four road games in six games, starting with trips to the New York Giants and Tennessee. A home game against Oakland breaks up the stretch on Dec. 12, followed by a trip to Indianapolis, a home date with Washington, and the season finale at Houston.

Jags face one of NFL’s most-difficult schedules

By Bud L. Ellis

For the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2009, the difference between a runner-up finish in the AFC South and a last-place finish was two victories.

Jacksonville looks to take the next step toward a return to the AFC playoffs in 2010, and it’ll do so facing one of the toughest schedules in the National Football League.

The NFL has released its list of home games and road games for every team. Dates and times will be determined later.

The Jaguars take on five teams that made the playoffs last season, and none of those games figure to be easy. Two are against AFC champion and AFC South powerhouse Indianapolis, one in Indy and one in Jacksonville. Philadelphia, which made the NFC playoffs as a wild card last season, comes to Jacksonville, and the Jags play at AFC West champion San Diego and at NFC East champion Dallas.

The combined 2009 record of those teams: 49-15.

Jacksonville’s other six home games are against Houston, Tennessee, Denver, Oakland, Cleveland and Washington. Away from home, the Jags’ other five road games come at Houston, Tennessee, Kansas City, Buffalo and the New York Giants.

Based on opponents’ winning percentage from last season, the Jags’ schedule ranks fifth-toughest in the NFL.
